You’ve got the cheap flights Down Under, now here’s how you stay in Australia for less

If you can leave it to the ‘last minute’ to book your accommodation for Australia then, like the UK, you can also access lastminute.com and see what hotels (and trips) they have available for you.

Another site that I have used before to find some great bargains on places to stay is Wotif.com — this site covers every type of accommodation from hotels to apartments to holiday parks to B&Bs, so you can usually find something to suit (and cheaper too). It has a great search facility that allows you to put in a maximum budget, so you can quickly and easily find somewhere in your price range.

Then look out for deals… here’s one I heard about today from TravelZoo Australia — certainly worth signing up to their newsletter if you are planning a trip Down Under any time soon (it also covers internal flight sales):

All the hotels in the deal are under the Sofitel, Pullman, MGallery, Grand Mercure, Novotel, Mercure, All Seasons and Ibis brands, and you can save up to 60% OFF the normal rates at these properties! You’ve got til 29th June to book (midnight Australia time so midday UK time):

  • 3-star Ibis Sydney King Street Wharf … AUD$79
  • 3-star Ibis Melbourne … AUD$79
  • 4-star Mercure Brisbane … AUD$99
  • 4.5-star Novotel Perth Langley … AUD$99
  • 5-star Pullman Reef Hotel Casino, Cairns … AUD$129
  • 5-star Grand Hotel Melbourne MGallery … AUD$129
  • 5-star Sofitel Sydney Wentworth … AUD$159

The offer is for stays at the hotels between 10 July and 30 September 2009.

GO HERE to book (and see all the other hotels available).

Out of cities, another great budget option to consider is Caravan Parks. Now, while anyone who knows me well realises I am not the camping type 😉 Caravan Parks typically also have ‘cabins’ that you can rent which are similar to holiday apartments inside but usually cheaper (and have the benefit of being detached!). Good caravan parks will also offer a host of facilities — pool, cafe, tour desk, BBQs, etc. and are a great lower-cost option if you are travelling with kids (or without!). Here’s some links to help you find a Caravan Park where you’re heading in Australia:

So combining the latest flight deals to Australia with some of these bargain accommodation options, it’s easy to see how that Australia holiday you’ve always wanted can be well within budget!
